National Preparedness Month's Homeland Security Education Initiative for National Preparedness Month

BOSTON - September 20, 2007 - announced the launch of a new homeland security initiative that provides online degree programs designed to increase awareness of the importance of homeland security. This initiative was created in conjunction with National Preparedness Month, which is a nationwide effort to encourage emergency preparedness. This program enables people to easily access homeland security programs and courses from the country's top schools. This program is the first in a series of initiatives to make the site's extensive list of degrees more accessible to individuals interested in a specific concentration.

Degrees in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security

There are a number online degree programs focused on Homeland Security offered through and its network of colleges and universities. Many of the programs and courses include  fundamental understanding of essential management skills and addresses unique skill-sets needed to understand Homeland Security at local, state, and federal levels.

About National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month is a cooperation of nearly 1,200 national, state, and local agencies and organizations to encourage Americans to prepare their homes, businesses, schools and communities for disasters of all kinds. The goal of the month is to increase public awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies and to encourage individuals to take actions.  In 2007, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is sponsoring National Preparedness Month. FEMA Acting Regional Director Dennis Hunsinger explains the goal of National Preparedness Month is "engaging citizens in homeland security and disaster preparedness [as] a critical first step in effective government response and recovery efforts."
