FAQs
What are the admissions requirements?
- The basic admissions requirement for entering an undergraduate degree program is proof of your high school graduation, GED completion, or an associate's degree. Admission to a graduate program requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
What constitutes full or part-time status?
- Full-time students are registered for 13.5 or more credit hours per quarter. This is typically equivalent to three or more classes. Part-time students are registered for fewer than 13.5 credit hours per quarter. This is typically equivalent to one or two courses.
Does Strayer University charge an application fee?
- Yes. We require a modest $35 non-refundable application fee.
Are there any other fees to enroll?
- Students are responsible for transcript fees if they are requesting transfer credit from previously attended colleges. There are no registration, lab, or parking fees.
What makes Strayer University different than a traditional college or university?
- Over the years, we've designed our entire university specifically to meet your needs. Strayer University has developed curricula, schedules, online course options and student services that allow adults to earn degrees while continuing to work full-time.
Many students who haven't enjoyed their educational experience at other schools are delighted by the different atmosphere they discover at Strayer University where students are respected as adult professionals. The average age of a Strayer University student is 34. You'll appreciate attending school with others in similar circumstances, and you'll feel at ease in a setting that's supportive, not competitive.
Another major point of difference is that Strayer University operates on a quarter system, which allows students to complete courses in four 11-week terms each year. Most universities operate on a semester system, which allows for two 15-week terms each year. A course with 4.5 quarter hours or credits is equivalent to a course with 3.0 semester hours or credits. The quarter system allows students to complete more courses each year and achieve their degree more quickly.
How long will it take me to graduate?
- That depends on a lot of factors, including which program you're in; how many courses you take each quarter; how many credits you might be transferring from other schools; if you can earn any additional credits through CLEP exams, work/life experience, or challenge exams; and if you plan to attend consecutive quarters without any breaks. Your admissions officer and academic advisor can help you plan your program and anticipate a graduation date.
In general, a bachelor's degree student who has transferred to Strayer University with an associate's degree (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits), who does not earn any additional credits through CLEP or challenge exams, and who takes 2 courses per quarter can complete the degree in 9 quarters (2 years and 3 months) with no quarters "off."
Graduate students with no transfer credits will typically complete their program in 6 quarters, or 1-1/2 years, taking 2 courses per quarter and no quarters off. [back to top]
